What to Look for in Quality Crowd Control Barriers

Qué buscar en cuanto a calidad de barreras de control de multitudes

When you’re looking for retractable belt crowd control posts or stanchions and barriers for crowd control in terminals, restaurants, stadiums, retail, or other similar high-use environments, you want a quality product that’s going to enhance safety and streamline customer flow. Where there are barriers, there is order.

You need a stanchion that will fit your budget, but you also need a product that will stand up to the bumping, touching, moving, cleaning, rearranging, and pulling of everyday use. Naturally, you want the best make of crowd control barrier that you can afford, but what characteristics equate with such value?

5 Criteria to Evaluate Crowd Control Barriers:

safety crowd control

1. Safety

Crowd control barriers are meant to guide people, to maintain order where chaos could reign, and to keep your queue safe and secure. That means you need a belt that doesn’t warp or cause injury, and a mechanism that won’t break off the post. Invest in retractable belt stanchions that boast a smooth mechanism with a slow-retract belt, but also host an embedded mechanism (not one that’s just screwed to the top of the stanchion) that is completely sealed within the post and protects the belt from dirt, grime, and physical abuse.

Your stanchions should also come equipped with a fully automatic metal locking system to prevent the accidental release of belts or post-top accessories.

durability crowd control

2. Durability

Your queue is only as good as the guidance and safety it provides the people who stand within it. A superior post-to-base connection ensures the longevity of your stanchion, keeping the post secure and your queue straight. A heavy-duty cast-iron base provides the stanchion with excellent stability and will withstand a lifetime of abuse from moving or dropping.

Additionally, a continuous post extrusion or tube without breaks or cuts preserves strong, reliable posts, even under extreme conditions. Post material such as aluminum or stainless steel provides weather resistance that will help your stanchions last for years.

flexibilty crowd control3. Flexibility

If you’re looking to add new posts to an already existing queue, seek out stanchions equipped with a universal belt-end that’s compatible with other manufacturers’ posts. In other words, you want components that will allow you to mix and match.

If you want maximum flexibility and versatility in your queue – and who doesn’t? – invest in crowd control barriers that offer a four-way receptacle which allows you to attach up to three other belts to a single post. Posts should also be able to accept sign frames or signage systems without the need for extra, sometimes costly, add-ons.

maintenance crowd control4. Ease of Maintenance

Mildew, buildup… they’re facts of life. Bet you’ve never considered how they impact your choice of stanchions. Your best choice in a quality crowd control barrier will have a base to beat all bases. And that would mean including a standard rubber seal on the bottom of a heavy cast-iron base (a base that provides exceptional stability). The rubber seal should be non-marking to protect the floor from scratches.

But, and this is the little detail you will suddenly covet, the finest posts will be notched to allow for airflow, permitting freshly mopped floors to dry quickly and evenly underneath the posts – that means no mildew, no buildup. The little things can make a world of difference in the quality of your stanchions, and their lifespan.

innovation crowd control5. Innovation

When is a stanchion not just a stanchion? When it has innovative features that take it beyond the ordinary. Make your queue work for you by using stanchions that can deliver ROI, increase sales, and make your customers’ wait time seem even shorter. A stanchion that can accept in-line merchandising panels or post-top bowls will allow you to add a plethora of merchandise right into your queue, turning previously unproductive floor space into a goldmine.

Additionally, people that are busy shopping or browsing while they wait tend to feel as if the wait is shorter than it really is, creating happier customers. Look for stanchions that can be used as retractable belt barriers and as in-line merchandising posts to offer the greatest flexibility and cost savings.
